June 2006 (Branson, Missouri) -
As "Branson’s First Show," The Baldknobbers Jamboree engendered a legacy that now spans five decades and
three generations. Starting in 1959 when brothers Jim, Bill, Bob and Lyle Mabe set up at the lakefront to
entertain fishermen visiting Branson, the Mabes worked together to create a Branson entertainment icon now
in its 47th successful season.
Second-generation family member Tim Mabe, son of Katie and the late Jim Mabe, joined The Baldknobbers
Jamboree Show in 1986 as a rhythm guitarist, later following in the footsteps of his father as comedian Droopy
Drawers Jr. "I started on the show in January of 1986 when we were still doing road shows," Tim recalls. "When I
wasn’t playing rhythm guitar on stage, I sold souvenirs, passed out brochures and even parked cars. Everybody
worked at whatever needed to be done, that was the rule."
Born and raised in Nixa, Missouri, Tim has fond memories of playing on the parking lot as a youngster while his
father, comedian Droopy Drawers, Sr., was on stage. "My cousins and I hung out in the parking lot and played
baseball with crushed paper cups from the concession stand," Tim remembers. "A few of the cars had to slam
on their brakes to dodge those paper cup balls, which backed up the cars in the parking lot. Boy, we sure got
in trouble for that!"
"Looking back on those good old days when I got to share the stage with my dad, it really meant a lot to me,"
Tim explains. "I’m really grateful for what our families did because it took a lot of hard work to make it all
happen. We are a close family, and I had the opportunity to thank my dad and tell him how much I appreciated
all he had done before he passed on."
Tim’s wife, Patty, was born in Tacoma, Washington and later moved to Ava, Missouri. "Patty’s grandparents lived
in Nixa, where she visited often. Next thing you know, we met and married. We will celebrate 26 years of
marriage in August," Tim says proudly. Tim and Patty are the proud parents of three children.
